The Value of Honey
Honey has values that are many, both medicinal and nutritional. Where I live you can find local honey pretty much everywhere as the farmers keep bees for their pollination value and the honey is a nice by product. But maybe you don't have that access, maybe your only shot at honey is the local grocery store or health food store. It will be a valued asset in your preps.

Re: The Value of Honey
I married into a family of beekeepers and while I've always wanted to raise honeybees before, I was a bit nervous in starting. A brother-in-law gave me two beehives when he moved away to Arizona and now I have to tell everyone they are the easiest pets/animals to take care of. If we go on vacation for a summer, I don't have to pay the neighbor boy to water them like my garden. Likewise when the neighbor boy forgets to come over, they continue on while my garden dries up to a crisp. I have honey coming out of my ears, even to the point where we don't harvest the honey every year.
My teenagers are fourth generation beekeepers now and it's an easy non-time consuming family hobbie. People call us about swarms in the Spring and we're now up to five hives. These take up a space a dinning room table would. Bees can be raised in the city just as easy as the country for not much money. An affordable source for beekeeping equipment I would recommend is Glorybee Beekeeping. Bees are a carefree piece that checks-off the sugar portion of a food supply.
