Thread: Optics. opinions?

  1. Optics. opinions?

I am thinking a really low power or red dot. I really need to keep cash flow REALLY low. maybe at the most mid 300's...It needs to be "tactical" and able to withstand punishment.

I have heard great things about the aimpoint varieties, the ML 2

the price is right for sure....i may try it, but i need a review from someone who has taken a 3 day rifle course or one of Pat roger's courses or something to say how they hold up. too scared (and too poor)to to risk it on new technology.

MAC have you used the lucid? is it worth the hype? What is this talk about a group buy?

With that budget and requirements, I would look for a 2nd hand Aimpoint that comes with a mount. A quick search on KSL shows a used ML2 with mount for $325, 12 days old so it might not be available. But a little patience and one will turn up.

You *might* be able to find an ML2 on sale for the ~350 range, but keep in mind you're most likely going to need to buy a mount for that too and that'll likely push you up over 400.

I would really try hard to go Aimpoint...

    My input FWIW.

I haven't used the Lucid but a lot of LEO/SWAT guys have and they really seem to like them. I will be getting one For T&E as soon as I get some funds together (donations will be accepted....).
I have talked extensively with the owner and he seems to be a stand up guy. Plus we have the same last name so he must really be kewl...

Those look interesting. I wish I could find more opinions and reviews on them...

  8. Re: Optics. opinions?

MadOgre has a "Lucid" on the way for evaluation. Scroll down to his post on 5-12-10.

I'll probably talk to him in the next day or two and see where he is in the evaluation.

The Ogre has recommended Vortex Optics for someone on a tight budget, he says they hold up well.

My son had a pair of Vortex Razor binoculars, I was very impressed.

I stopped and talked to the MadOgre today and asked him if he had received the Lucid he had ordered. He said he had already reviewed it and posted videos on You Tube.

The reticle can be seen from the front, he said for use in home defense or by a sport shooter he would recommend it. He does not recommend it for use on an infantry weapon.

    Re: Optics. opinions?

For that price range I would consider the Hawk Reflex sight...
I have used many of their products. For the price, I have found them to be the best value..if you look at the specs below, you will see they offer some nice attributes.

    Features
    • Wide FOV
    • Brightness control
    • Parallax free to 40yds
    • inc. Adjustment scale
    • Designed for Quick Target Acquisition,
    Rapid-Fire and moving targets
    • 4 M.O.A

The tubeless design of the reflex lens aperture provides a wide field of view. Besides normal shooting it's suitable for rapid-firing or shooting moving targets.

The automatic red dot brightness adjustment uses an integrated control circuit. This adjusts the brightness of the aiming dot to varying ambient light levels. The brightness sensor on the front side of the sight, senses the brightness in the target direction. When the target surroundings are dark, the red dot will be dimmer. When target surroundings are bright, the red dot will be brighter. <>br />
The red dot is firmly factory adjusted parallax free to 40 yards. This adjustment ensures the parallax related aiming errors are minimised over a large distance range. This red dot does not contain a separate on/off switch. When the red dot sight is covered, it is in the power-saving mode (off). When the cover is removed, the red dot is turned on automatically. Hawke Reflex Dot measures 4 M.O.A.

Red Dot Reticle: Providing quick and easy target acquisition. Red Dot

My first pick of a reflex sight would be the Trijicon Reflex. It is what I use, and have for a long time. These are indestructable, and always reliable. The best part is, they dont take batteries. And that is my number one rule for optics. I have been in very compromising possitions, as well as colliques of mine, when the batteries of other units have gone out at the worst possible time.
    Food for thought..
