Ideas for Emergency Preparedness or Self Reliance Family Home Evenings
Okay you guys, I'm listing a few, but I want some ideas also! Family Home Evening emergency preparedness activities can be lots of fun. Here are a few ideas:
Prepared not Scared has a fun FHE scavenger hunt they wrote for ward families, but could easily be used within your own family. Check it out here. Thanks to iPrepared for the link.
Here's a different scavenger hunt with the purpose to get contents of an emergency kit together.
Wouldn't it be fun to do a mock evacuation? Ten minutes to get all your stuff and get out of the house. See what you brought with you and what you forgot. Put together evacuation lists based on the experience and plan a meeting place in case you all aren't home if a real evacuation is ordered. Keep the practice fun, not stressful.
Use the evening to map fire escape routes from your house and/or put together an emergency phone list to post by the phone (these are both cub scout requirements also). Practice a fire drill. Fun.
Spend the evening weeding the garden as a family. Or canning something. Or cooking something without power.
On that note, turn off all the lights/power and have a power's out night by flashlight/candle/lantern.
Any other ideas??? And no, I'm not in charge of the lesson next week, I have treats.
