Thread: Preparing To Be Of Service

  1. Preparing To Be Of Service

We scurry about, pinching our pennies, creating storage caches and emergency kits to match the 'recommended' lists created by someone or our own lists that are jotted on the back of an envelope.

Sometimes, we forget that our 'lists' have a huge hole in them.

What are our preparation efforts that will focus on others outside of ourselves and families?

There is no denying that others will need assistance. It is a fact in any emergency situation, short term or long term.

Do we store a tithe of extra supplies to give away? Is that enough?

The majority of folks are not resource rich and filling their own preparedness needs involves careful planning and stretching of resource cash. Can it be stretched even further to secure food, water and goods for others too?

We each have to address and resolve this question individually.

Is the purchase and storage of supplies the only way to address this issue?

    No, it isn't.

Sometimes, with thoughtful planning, we can creatively use our time and talents to help others and turn our meager supply values into a plethora of riches. We just need to think of ways to apply ourselves in venues that we can affect.

Witness the miracles accomplished by 80+ year-old Alice Fogg as she puts her talents to use and produces astonishing returns on her investment.

One thing that we've done, on a very limited budget, is stock up on things like Ramen Noodles. You can buy large quantities for very little money and in a crunch, it would taste like a steak dinner. This is our give away food. We'll share what we can, but this helps extend that.

Northmountain, I love this story!!! We can all bloom where we are planted!!! I just want to put little Alice in my pocket and keep her she is sooooooooo cute!!! I hope I am as willing to serve and be of use at 80+ years old!!!

AZPrepper, like you, we too, have been thinking how we can help with our food in a crisis. I am an AVID dehyrdrator and love to make my own soup mixes. By dehydrating frozen veggies (or whatever veggies were left over from dinner that we would put in the fridge and throw out it became modly), we have made mylar bags of our favorite soup mixes. Most of these we will use ourselves; however, we plan to have these to give out when needed! I TOTALLY agree that a little soup can go a long way to making someone feel better in a bad situation!!!
