Cabela's Big Horn II Tent Review
Last Christmas for our family gift, we purchased a Big Horn II tent. We were lucky and got it for a good price because they were closing it out. They now have a Big Horn III tent, but I can not tell what major changes they made from model to model.
Anyhow, it is a 12x14 tent that is made of the same material as the Alaknak. We went on 6 family camp trips this year and really put it through its paces. I have been very pleased with it. It is quick to set up with the sturdy metal poles that have steel shock cords. It has a nice geodesic shape that sheds wind and water very well. It does not have a center pole so there is more usuable space. We even take our little travel crib and set it up for our 1 year old.
I purchased this tent for a day to day use and also for use in case of a call out/tent city application. I have a camp trailer that I am hoping to take, but always had that nagging feeling to pick up a tent "just in case". Once I purchased this the nagging feeling went away As I was looking for a tent I wanted one that was light enough to be hauled by a couple of people. This fits the bill perfectly weighing only about 75lbs total with the vestibule.
I have not tried my cylindar stove in it yet, but hope to this winter as I allready have a few campouts planned for the cold months, starting with my wife's elk hunt in November.
