Thread: Physiological Preparedness: Physical Fitness and Close Quarters Combat

  1. Physiological Preparedness: Physical Fitness and Close Quarters Combat

You know I would really like to see more on physical fitness and close quarters combat. I see loads posted about guns, ammo, etc. on these type of forums but not much on the physiological preparedness that goes into the correct use of violence. It's like people view their guns as their best defense instead of their mind and spirit.

Has anyone here read Lt. Col. Dave Grossmans books "On Killiing" or "On Combat"? What about Gavin DeBecker's 'The Gift of Fear'? There is a lot of quality information in those publications of extreme value to all preppers really interested in learning about protecting their family in crisis

    What about this?

This addresses another huge deficiency in the average preppers thinking.

Let me know what you think.

Whether you survive a bad situation (out side of divine intervention) is truely a matter of mind set. I have seen guys with no real formal fighting skill or training defeat people with far better skills/training simply because of their mind set. It goes back to the "triangle" (mind, body & spirit), we need to be as evenly rounded as we can and not just rely on one gift, skill or blessing to save us. Hand to hand is definitely one are that I need to improve in.
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than one's fear. The timid presume it is lack of fear that allows the brave to act when the timid do not."
    Ambrose Hollingworth Redmoon

If it is possible, it has been done. If it's impossible, we will do it.

On that very note I highly, Highly recommend reading Grossmans books "On Killing" and "On Combat". These two are now required reading at the FBI and CIA academies.

All three books you metioned are outstanding. They are recommended reading by our cadre as well.
Physical fitness is something very few would like to talk about or consider. There is no will power in the world gonna get you through physical challenges that your body is not tuned for.
I predict this to be one of the single biggest problems in a future catostrophic event. America is the Fatest country in the world. Survival of the fittest can mean just that sometimes.
I hope everyone who is playing with guns, and putting away provisions, is also working out and staying fit.
