Thread: Avocados?

  1. Avocados?

My family loves avocados so I'm trying to find out if there is a way to store them long term. The high fat content seems to be the problem, so I am thinking of something along the lines of coconut cream concentrate. Anyone know of anything or have any ideas?

My dad had a avacado groves in So Calif and so we always had them around. Storing them long term is delicate. We would make quacamole and add a little lemon juice so it wouldn't discolor and then freeze it. Stores carry it and you can check and see what kind or horrible things manufacturers put in it so that it stays fresh longer.

My DH has been trying to figure out how to grown avacados in Utah now for 18 years now. We do have 2 staghorn ferns growing above our kitchen sink. I guess he figures that if he can grow those he can grown avcados.

Ilovemykidsmore... If you come up with some type of cream concentrate I would LOVE to hear about it. My family is like yours and we eat a lot of avocados. Thanks Shari

  4. Re: Avocados?

We have daughters who live in CA and have access to lots of avocados. One year when they brought home a whole sack full I ended up putting some in the freezer just to see what would happen. They freeze fine, just leave them whole and put into a zip lock bag. Of course I don't try to slice them when I want to use them, just mash them.
