    Waterproof protective carriers for AAs

Batteries are somewhat sensitive to jolts and banging around. Simply sticking them inside a ziplock in a pack has always made me a little nervous. I would recommend having soft things around them if you can if you pack them in this manner.

Another idea I came up with is a PVC tube for a FIFO (First In First Out) system.

1/2" schedule 40 PVC is about perfect for AAs. They fit fairly well and slide right through. A pair of end caps and you have a nice waterproof protective container. It can be used as a FIFO to ensure you are wearing the batteries evenly, you pull good batteries from one end and put your used ones in the other end and have a piece of foam as a separator for good/dead cells (ear foamy works fine for this). When you have the ability to recharge, you pull them out of the dead side until you reach the separator, recharge, then replace. Such a system need not be limited to a pack, and could be used for your stash at home, in a car, etc. It may not be very suitable for small packs, as it tends to be a little long, you need about 2" of pipe per AA.

Another potential protective case is a S&W 500 reloader's plastic ammo case, which you can find online or at local vendors of reloading supplies like sportsmans/cabelas. They fit AAs quite well. I believe a .357 case will fit AAAs.
