    Long, and a slow connection...
OK, I got through part one and two and half of three..and took notes the whole time..
I like it. I like the guy. He has obviously put a lot of time and effort into the planning..I have to applaud him for making a great vidoe, for free no doubt, and has spread a lot of knowledge to people. He has done the best video that I have seen yet on USK.
I really like the fact that he emphasized the idea of a "write off". He is absolutely on the spot. It must be that way. SAWC was adressed well. Ziploc bag problems were explained well (most people dont talk about that). Bag must blend is very important and he stressed that. Pre-positioning. Caches. wonderful. Must haves. Optics, nice. Few people think of that. snickers are great, for tier three. Dust maks, maybe tier three. Stove and fuel, not in my tier two bag. Sun and safelty glasses. Nice, but I only carry one pair, has both lenses, and a beefier pair, goggles. Spoon good, for tier three. Radio, AM/FM crank, not in my tier two. Same with Talkabouts. I carry one 440 ham, I will get info, call long distance for help, AND talk to anyone with a talkabout, my tier three. Keltec 380, tier one for me. My choice for tier two or three will be an offensive handgun, extra mag is a must, but take the ammo out of the boxes. Lithium batts great, the only ones to buy and write off in a kit. Ear plugs, not so much. Thurmal bivvy, good, or wool. OC is a must. WD40 good. Water filter, should be smaller or that size put in a tier three kit. rubber bands and zip ties, and 550 cord good. Only one whistle per kit for me. Center punch, awesome. Wire, nice, for tier three. Wire cutters, nah, I go straight to my 8" bolt cutters. Hacksaw, screwdriver, great, for tier three. Stanley knife, not in tier two. Head lamp, and non refillable bic lighter must haves. Electrical and duct tape, not in tier two. Flint n steel, not in tier two. Signal mirror good. Screwdriver, not that kind, need one that can be used on vehicles (square shank craftsman). Trioxane, one in tier two. Collapsable water bottle, not in tier two. Playing cards and cheep scissors, no. Compass is a must have, (but a good one for tier two. Work gloves, not in tier two. Leatherman is a must. Dehydrated meals, not in tier two. Prybar, yes.
Im trying to download the last part as we speak. So more on his kit when I get to finish the video.
For now, a couple thoughts of mine about his kit. The first thing I noticed was his kit is very unorganized. Terrible. 1. you should know where everything is for immediate deployment in the dark, and 2. critical life saving things are thrown in the middle with crap. He wouldnt be able to get to his gun or OC when he needed it. They should be in an outside pocket.
The second thing I noticed that disturbed me was that nothing was waterproofed. Hurricanes, tornados, blizzard, floods, earthquakes, all involve large amounts of water. His am/fm radio, talkabouts, batteries, cell phone, and spare cell battery would all be ruined. Another thing I dont like is the boxes. Ammo, batteries, etc where still in the boxes. Not so much guys. Even my case lots are dumped into ammo cans. No room for packaging in a kit. Escpecially if they are not waterproof.
That is my thoughts for now. More to follow when my connection feeds me the last.

Darin: Spent the last 2 hours watching the 3 videos! Fantastic! Although we do not reside in an Urban Environment these films assisted in tweaking our 72 hour kits. I keep mine in my vehicle because I do travel to urban areas; ergo, the benefit was immense. I recommend all viewers cancel the next TV movie you intend to watch and view these videos with the spouse and older kids!!

I would also recommend highlighting and taking notes while you read books and watch movies. I do this regularly. I keep a notebook and highlighter handy anytime I read a book or watch any program that might give me ideas. I keep compiling, evaluating, and reviewing my kits always. Keep improving your kits.
Another thought is this: while reading or viewing tv, note to yourself every time you tell yourself "I wish I could do that" or "I wish I knew that". Compile a list of subjects that you would like to know, or skills that you think may become useful some day and start working on your list. We all have that time that we "waste" doing things that do not enhance our lives or abilities in any way but making us feel better. Think of the skills and knowledge that will be gained in one years time simply by using our "blow off" time more effectively.

My newest article in The Backwoodsman Magazine. A published overview of an urban survival kit, its planning and concepts.
