I must of got lost, I must of got... oh wait, never mind, that's not how I got here, that's an old J. Geils song.
I remember now, you sent me an email and told me about this place.![]()
The wife, myself, and our 2 sons are converts to the Church (from about 4+ years ago). No one else from either of our families are members, but we're working on 'em.
We consider ourselves pretty well prepared (spiritually and temporally)... but there's always more work to be done.
That's why I'm here.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I am one of the most unprepared persons on the the planet and have come looking for further light and knowlege.
Oh, you wanted "my" history. hmmmmm, okay I live, eat, sleep, and breathe preparedness and watch my wife roll her eyes at me with every new preparedness gimick I have learned or heard about. Sorry, I just have to try everything. That is how I can speak with somewhat of a knowledge when people tell me about things that work and I tell them they are right or up in the night and have no clue what they are talking about.
My best qualifications for preparedness teaching and such is what I call life. I am one of the few people that is still alive that you can find in Webster's Dictionary and if you look under "accident" and "accident prone" you will most likely see my name and maybe my picture. Birth was the highlight of my life and it has gone downhill since then. I decided very young in life that if I were to survive this life I needed to know something about emergency preparedness. So at the young age of 12 I took the first aid meritbadge in scouts and by 13 I was teaching CPR for the Red Cross. I have many other trainings and specialties in the preparedness realm under my belt which includes 16 years as a nuclear, biological and chemical warfare and weaponry specialist/team leader. I pray I will never have to disable nuclear weapons again and can live out my life making doll houses and toy wooden trains for my (soon to be) granddaughters and grandsons however the reality of the very uncertain future has hit very close to home for me and I am constantly activily engaged in trying to become a profitable servant to those in need.

I was raised in Africa -- no running water, no clean water -- had to filter, no electricity (later Dad bought a generator ), kerosene refrig, vault toilet in an out house, cooked on a wood stove, we took 2 years worth of food with us when we went supplementing with hunted wild animals, wild fruit and a garden. To us that was just the way you lived.
Flash forward to age 21 when I joined the Church. Food storage did not seem at all bizarre as we had been doing that for years.
Flash forward to having children. I just knew that I was to store every needful thing, including lots of schoolbooks and pencils and paper.
Flash forward to moving to Utah from California. I was amazed that homes had such lovely food storage rooms and that most of them belonging to my friends were junk catchers or empty.
Flash forward to getting CERT trained, setting up CERT classes in my town with a fellow named Kenneth Moravec, then a few years later he invited me to go to a meeting in Orem by a fellow named Roger Young.
And here I am -- unprepared but sincerely trying to do the Lord's will.

i am Joe. I was born in East Los Angeles. really, i was. lol. We lived between 2 gangs. I was blessed to see the other side and live it for my growing up years. You live in the midst of Hell, you yearn for heaven. The thing my mom taught me was an undeniable faith in Christ. From the age of 7, I believed that the second coming was just a year or 2 away. I would scare my cub scout leader by asking her if she would be our teacher when the second coming was here. When i was 13, i saw "red dawn' for the first time, and knew that that would probably happen to us, and that we needed to prepare. So here we are, still preparing...losing eveything worldly and then preparing again.

Hey all, I'm chef Stephanie Petersen. I've been an avid food storage nut for years and teach a lot of classes in Arizona. I was a pastry chef and banquet chef but have lived as a full time mother and business owner for the last 10 years. I love this forum and am so excited to have been invited to participate. I've been canning and preserving as well as cooking with food storage most of my life so I hope I can be a good resource for anyone with questions. Feel free to drop me a note. As a memeber of the church I've been taught from the time I was small to prepare, but didn't really take it personally until we had our first baby. Somehow the thought of him ever going hungry if I could prevent it kept me motivated. Hooray for that. We've had to rely on our year's supply several times to make it through some tough times and I have a strong testimony of the importance of not only preparing for the future. God bless you all.

Why does this NOT surprise me?
My name is Karin Terry and I was born and raised on the beach (well, the backyard was full of sand) in San Diego. I joined the Church just out of high school, went to Utah State and met my husband. I have four kids, one dog, and 35 chickens.
I have been the Food Storage/Preparedness person in my Ward since 2002 - so hopefully these forums will help be perfect my calling. Obviously, since I've had it now for 7.5 years I should be getting the hang of it. My husband is even more on board with obtaining every thing plus for the time to come.
I figure life is for the ride, as long as we're riding down the right side, and I'm here to enjoy it.
I am so ready to learn and share!

I received the e-mail and signed up.
I'm a young father of 2 and do what I can to keep to the straight and narrow. With dark clouds brewing in the distance, it seems a lot of that is preparing for what is to come.

Sooooo.....you want me to introduce myself....do ya!?!?
.....alrighty, here ya go.....AH FOOEY....the smileys aint a workin here!!!!!! :P
My name is smiley and I'm addicted to preparedness!!
hahahaha....alrighty..
I come from heaven and was brought here to earth to a wonderful family! For years I had only been taught the surface of things for that is only what was taught...I guess...it took me 34 years about, to come to know of the importance of PREPAREDNESS. Between my dear sister and my Father above, they have helped me in the process of it all.
When I started in this world of preparedness, I started on getting the food, then as time passed I started slowly obtaining things outside the food world. I was working as a vet tech and found that the desires to stock up on "first aid" and other medical materials was something of importance...haha, now I know why! I continue to work towards obtaining what is needed and desired to have for what may lie ahead.
Since I have and am still obtaining the knowledge of preparing I have tried to stick it out and obtain all I could about it and then some. Sometimes it is hard and feel like I am not getting anywheres...BUT...in time all will be well and I will make it!
Sooo....I come in peace and am here for further enlightenment as my knowledge expands into new horizons.

I'm a preparedness nut. Buckets make me happy. Full buckets make me happier. Using the stuff in the buckets to make food my kids will actually eat is crazy happiness. If there's some preparedness skill to learn, I'm signing up and dragging a friend along with me. If someone says something is a certain way, I'm going to test it out and see if it's that way for me too. Still have a lot on my list to learn, so I just keep working away at it. I'm not a certified anything, but I've got over 10 years experience prepping with our little family. Hope to be able to contribute where I can and learn a bunch here also![]()

Hey! Me too!
Hey Angela, welcome! I'm curious how you stumbled onto our humble site![]()
Hi ya'll fellow weirdos........just another weirdo here heavy with preparedness stuff looking for more. I exist mostly in southern Utah county but make the rounds to most of the western U.S. on and off. I'm a boob about having to suffer much before I have to but be not mistaken I am ready for the worst when it comes this way. Riding the tails of a recent divorce that had me encumbered beyond belief I am now free to spread my preparedness wings and do the Lord's will even more. All I do is eat, sleep, and breathe preparedness and learning and quest for more knowledge, so bring me what you've got!!! :-) :0)

Hello to all, Just trying my hand at this new site. It will take me awhile to find my way through all this stuff. Living in happy valley close to BYU. I drive long haul. I have been getting lots of stuff, to be ready for what ever might come our way. Have a semi trailor, 48', and trying to turn it into the hotel on wheels with all prepredness stuff. I spend 90% of my time living in my semi truck. I have to look for showers and places to go, if you know what I mean.

Okay, it took me forever to learn how to navigate another preparedness site, and now I am going to try to learn this one....
I grew up with parents into preparedness, and in my married life, I have always had food storage. Then a little over a year ago, someone introduced me to some books by the author Roger K. Young. It has all gone down hill from there!! Ha Ha Ha
I am a married, stay at home mom with 5 children. For the past year, I have been trying to change my priorities and increase not only my physical preparedness, but my spiritual preparedness also. I'll let you all know if I ever reach my goals in those two areas!

Hey Heather! Glad you made it.
Brief?
Hi!
More Details?
Moravec e-mailed me about this site.
Born & raised Irish Catholic; converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints upon hearing the missionary discussions about a week after my 18th birthday - which was many, many, many moons ago! Have been looking forward to the Savior's return since I was about 15/16, and been doing my best to prepare spiritually and temporally. I love the out of doors (as if my nick name didn't give that away already) and spend as much time camping and river running as I possibly can. Back when my knees were younger, I used to really enjoy backpacking also. *sigh* Happily, camping goes well with preparedness! I get to actually TEST the stuff I think I might NEED to use someday.![]()

Wow another preparedness site.....now I can spend the other half of my day here!!
Joined the church when I was 16. Firmly believed in over population at that time. I decided to do my part in over populating the planet and had 12 kids. Still married to the same man after all these years and down to our last 2 at home. (Heather, 2 posts above this one is our oldest) We are planning a campout Tent wedding for our youngest who is 15. She's not too thrilled with the idea.....I think it would be great....especially in a Big White Tent! I have made sure all the married kids can't move back home by filling up the extra bedrooms with food....sneaky huh? We live in a little desert Az town where we have raised our children. We have 16 grands so far with 2 on the way. Our married kids all have their year's supply + and other preps too. It is such a blessing to have most of our kids on board with preparing for our Savior's return. We have a couple single sons who we pray for a change of heart. Hope to meet you all through the written word soon. Peggy

Hey,
I'm a "less active Avow" member. I don't often post a lot of information, but I love to learn. I often research things of random interest. Like a while ago I stumbled upon a mention of a book that contains a translation of an ancient "metal book" from the Assyrian empire (I think it was the Assyrians, a rather interesting subject). It talks about 6 periods of creation and then deity worship as an example. Thank god for the holy ghost. I wouldn't be able to research anything with the filth of falsehoods out there without him. So I kinda have to stay close to father and stay good.
I have a pretty good relationship with father. Well better then my moral one anyways. I mean he's a pretty cool guy and all. He's shown me some cool things and trusts me to an extent. Heh, that's one subject I'm always open about.
I love to write! It's the one thing I can do that all my experiences and knowledge can improve! I currently work for a few online comic projects and have several stories that may turn into a book sometime. I prefer to write science fiction but my audience seems to prefer fantasy. Mind you the only difference is science fiction explains things, even if they have to make up words to do it. Fantasy just says "magic", or worse and tells you just to accept it. Besides those, I also write philosophy, it's fun to write as I seem to have a radical view on things.
As for preparedness, I feel driven to it. I mean besides liking to write about post apocalyptic stories. It's. Just. Cool. Not many can say they enjoy winter camping, cooking with solar ovens right? Well to each their own.
So yea, HI!

I didn't see this thread before, so I guess it's our turn.
My DH has been in to preparedness (just food) since he joined the Church in '80. I was raised in the Church but not taught preparedness at all. I always wanted to, but didn't until I got divorced 6 1/2 yrs ago. After DH and I got married 5 yrs ago, we became fully food prepared, but didn't think about the rest...until we read Roger K. Young's Dreams and Visions book. DH had read all of his books before that. Dreams and Visions touch us deeply. It really rang true. We prayed about it and was told that what we have read was true, and that we had better get moving, time was quickly running out. Since that wonderful day, almost three years ago, we have been preparing "Every Needful Thing" as fast as we can. Preparedness is our life and our hobby. We love to learn new things, especially learning things that will help in this area. We belong to several preparedness related groups. We are always talking about preps in one form or another. We warn/teach others as often as we can.
Thanks for the invite. We are excited to be here.

I am a SAHM of four who loves preparedness. I love to read, write, and learn new skills. I am the CERT Incident Commander for the small city in Utah County where I live. I am actively working to increase my preparedness skills and stash. I am excited to be a part of the group and learn as much as I can.

Known to some as wyosummit, I am now simply Angelina.
I am also known for Angelina's Annals (with some variations on pronunciation, depending on who you talk to...) so I'll relegate my wordy introduction to the realm of the bloviating blogosphere where I can ramble at leisure and the chit chat won't be deleted (--ribbing you, AZ Prepper).
I am delighted to respond to the invitation from fiveseven to join this site, and encourage you to read everything he posts: he is a man who walks the talk. He can and regularly does go into the woods for a week with just a knife and survives relatively comfortably. He knows this stuff (he would choose another word but I'll keep it G rated), he lives this stuff, he IS this stuff. He's an invaluable resource for this site and to say I'm thrilled to learn as much as I can from him, and others of his level of expertise, is an understatement.
Meanwhile, for the rest of us: I know each of you have amazing experiences and insights to share that are, as in my world, well... just slightly less exciting than surviving in the wilderness for a week with just a knife, but I'm eager to learn from all of you. Many of you have already affected my life for good, and I'm so grateful, and anticipate more blessings from those of you whom I will get to know.
Finally, most of what I can contribute to this site is a lot of "thanks" and more chit chat, so I'm going to enjoy the show with some popcorn and dive in to listening much more than I talk (believe it)-- and thereby learning all I can from each of you.
For those of you who know me and DON'T believe it-- hop on over to my blog.![]()
