Thread: Midland gxt 1000 GRMS radios

  1. Midland gxt 1000 GRMS radios

I bought a couple of these units as an early Christmas present. Today was my first chance to try them out. I used one while we were snowmobiling today, and then again to talk to my wife while she took the kids to the local sledding hill aobut 6 or 7 miles away.

I figure while snow machning I was approximately 8 to 10 miles away and definetly not line of sight. In both cases the reception was very clear. I am really impressed with these units. They are water resistant and come with headsets, car charger and in a pinch you can trade out the rechargeable battery back with regular alkaline AA's. The multiple privacy channels is a nice feature as well to keep your comms private and not have the overtalk that is so annoying with other frs and gmrs radios.

Keep your eye out for sales. I bought this set for $50, but even at the current price of $63 they are a steal!

  2. Also, note that most of the HT ham radios can listen in on conversations between these GRMS radios. So, if you have a handheld ham radio that allows you to have a good antenna, you'll be able to hear the other conversations. Many of the mobile and base ham radios can transmit to these radios also.
