    Long Term Food Storage

A great series about long-term food storage with some helpful information.

One thing I'd recommend is to not buy your buckets from Lowe's or using used buckets. I'd recommend you spend a little more and get new, food-grade buckets. The small extra cost is a little insurance for something that may safe your life (food storage). A small cost in my opinion. You make your own decision.

However, those used buckets are great for storing other non-food items and animal products (charcoal, camping supplies, chicken feed, etc).

A couple of times a month, my husband stop in at the donut shop next door to where he works and picks up 6 gallon buckets for $1. They held donut glazes and icing. I know that because sometimes I have to wash a little bit of icing out when I'm cleaning them. I'm confident they are safe. They also have the nice rubber gasket in the lid that helps in forming a good seal. I line most of my buckets with mylar before pouring my food in. This is such a cost effective way to store lots of food.
