Global Sun Oven performance in the Utah winter

Rating: 2 votes, 4.50 average.
This is sort of an add on to AZ Trekkers great article on the Global Sun Oven. We had a somewhat rare sunny day two days ago, Feb. 10, 2010. I decided to put our sun oven out around 11:00 am to see what kind of temperature it would reach. This was the outside temp. Click image for larger version

ID:	271 The daily highs have not been over 45 so the snow has been here quite a while. After a few minutes I checked the temp and here's what it had gotten to. Click image for larger version

ID:	272 After about an hour I rotated the oven to the west a bit to again catch the full strength of the sun. I had 350 degrees for two full hours. I was very pleased and quite surprised to tell the truth. I really didn't think that with an air temp of 43 degrees the oven would reach the 350 degree mark let alone hold it for two hours.

Just after we got the oven we baked a loaf of bread. This picture was taken Sept 7, 2009. Click image for larger version

The sun oven really does its job. We are very pleased with it and hope to put it to good use this year.

Thanks for the great article AZ Trekker, I couldn't agree more.

Thank you for the great follow-up post to the Global Sun Oven blog post that I recently submitted. What a great testimonial! It was great that you documented your findings and put it together so succinctly.

You've inspired me to get out the sun oven I've had for 3 years and done nothing with. Wish me luck.
