This is sort of an add on to AZ Trekkers great article on the Global Sun Oven. We had a somewhat rare sunny day two days ago, Feb. 10, 2010. I decided to put our sun oven out around 11:00 am to see what kind of temperature it would reach. This was the outside temp.At 42 degrees I didn't really think the oven temp would get very high. This picture shows how our Utah snow hadn't quite melted.
The daily highs have not been over 45 so the snow has been here quite a while. After a few minutes I checked the temp and here's what it had gotten to.
In order to catch the full impact of the sun that is way to the south this time of year I had to extend the leg to the very last adjustment.
After about an hour I rotated the oven to the west a bit to again catch the full strength of the sun. I had 350 degrees for two full hours. I was very pleased and quite surprised to tell the truth. I really didn't think that with an air temp of 43 degrees the oven would reach the 350 degree mark let alone hold it for two hours.
Just after we got the oven we baked a loaf of bread. This picture was taken Sept 7, 2009.Looks good doesn't it? You will just have to take my word for it, it was delicious.
The sun oven really does its job. We are very pleased with it and hope to put it to good use this year.
Thanks for the great article AZ Trekker, I couldn't agree more.
