2010 Boy Scout Jamboree Emergency Prep Handbook - excellent template for youth groups

There any number of excellent preparedness handbooks out there, but here's the latest.

I just came across this 2010 Boy Scout Jamboree Emergency Preparedness Handbook.

http://www.scouting.org/filestore/ja...2-002_form.pdf

It was created specifically for Scouts and Leaders attending the Fort A.P. Hill Jamboree this summer in Virginia, but I found it to be an outstanding template for creating your own Handbook for any family, youth, civic or professional group in almost any setting: indoors or going on an outing. It is succinct, written for youth, and yet direct and comprehensive.

It has the usual emergency guidelines we're all familiar with, but also includes items such as terrorist/biological threat info. Also great for groups visiting metro areas with items such as "tips on using escalators", "tips for train travel", "dealing with panhandlers" and "ruin a pickpocket's day". Interesting that it's as important to train country boys about safety in a city as preparing city boys for safety in the wilderness.

I'm eager to tailor this info for use in our Cub Scout pack. Any of these items could happen at any indoor or outdoor Pack Activity, and especially at our Day Camp this summer.

It's also excellent material for anyone attending any kind of meeting or gathering alone, with your family or a group: conventions, fairs, parades, beaches, amusement parks, sporting events, Stake Conference, General Conference, corporate training, Youth Conference, EFY, Education Week, Fathers and Sons outings, Young Women's Camp, Scout Camp, Family Reunions, family camping... it's amazing how many venues we are in wherein these preparedness tips could be very useful-- and where 90% of the population would have no idea what to do when hit with trouble in that unusual circumstance/venue.

I am thinking that when the Sisters in our ward drove the primary kids over to the Temple for a tour of the Visitor's Center and the temple grounds, if any of the emergencies outlined in this book would have happened-- I don't know how many of us would have a good handle on the material presented in this handbook. But it is just a good eye-opener that not just Scout leaders need to "Be Prepared!" Every leader in the church and parent needs to be prepared as outlined in this manual. I'm top on that list!

I am hoping the info can be copied for personal/educational use, as I didn't see a copyright notice.
