This is a wonderful opportunity to learn a skill that might be needed at some point in your lives. If you are interested, please contact Alisa Morford directly, her email is alisamorford@gmail.com (alisamorford@gmail.com) and her phone number is 801-405-6803. The class will likely be held in West Mountain UT (West of Payson)

Here is the info on the class: (please read both parts)

Friends,
My midwife, Heather Shelley, is fund raising for opening a birthing center in Haiti. She and her colleagues are teaching various classes for a fee as part of this fund raising. One of those classes is suturing, or sewing up wounds. If you are interested in learning this skill, I would be happy to host the class.
The cost is $40 per person and all proceeds go to the birthing center in Haiti. Please let me know if you are interested in this opportunity and I will schedule it with them.
Suturing would be a very important skill in situations where emergency crews are not available to deal with injuries. For example, it is probable that in a major earthquake those of us in outer-lying areas would not see emergency or medical help for a period of weeks or months...if ever. To be able to close a wound, that might otherwise cause a person to bleed to death or host a life-threatening infection, would be a lifesaving skill.
Feel free to forward this on to those you think might be interested in this opportunity!

Thank you all for your interest in the suturing class! The idea that we can help women in Haiti and prepare ourselves to be more self-sufficient at the same time is fantastic.
My desire here is to answer some questions and give us all a better understanding of how this class will be run.
First of all, we each will be bringing our own piece of raw meat to practice on. A chicken breast will do fine! ;)
Secondly, the class will be approximately two hours long with more time for practice if that is necessary. The first hour is lecture, or teaching, while the second (or more) hour is for practice on our piece of meat with the supervision and help of the doctor teaching the class. Another topic that will be covered is what essential oils with numb wounds in the event that there is no lidocaine or topical anesthetics available.
Also, all you will need for the class (besides your meat) is a needle holder which can either be found at a medical supply store or you may purchase one at the class. Suture removal kits will also be available for purchase. This class includes the cost of one suture.
Lastly, if you AND a friend sign up for the class, you and they can receive admission for $35 instead of the original $40.
I am creating a list of each of you who have expressed interest in the class and will contact you directly for final specifics on location and time.
