Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (an Not so Wild) Places
"Wildman" Steve Brill with Evelyn Dean
ISBN 0-688-11425-3
321 pgs
Edible and Medicinal Plants is probably the best book I've found on the subject of edible plants. The author, Steve Brill, actually harvests, eats and uses the plants he covers in this book as opposed to lab theory espoused in most of the other books on this topic. He teaches classes to students using Central Park in New York City as his larder.

Coupled with the excellent plant sketches by Evelyn Dean, Steve has created in-depth reviews of hundreds of plants, their native environment, cautions, warnings, what and when to harvest and how to prepare the harvest for consumption or use.
You'll laugh at his descriptions of the taste, the mess and of the items that are good but will consume more calories in preparation than you'll gain in nourishment. Your mouth will also start watering many times during your reading sessions and you'll wonder why you are spending so much money on 'weed' sprays when you could be controlling the problem by eating it.
Recommendation:
5 Stars ... Regardless of the field craft skill level
