The following is the History Channel special, After Armageddon... a great show about surviving when society collapses due to completely realistic natural events. Definitely a must watch!

Take notes and be considering what you'd do in this situation...

This was all and all a pretty good show. I was on the set for this one as a consultanct. They are planning another series of these too. Should be good. They called in a lot of experts in different areas. Very knowledgable people. But after talking to them, in particular, i.e. the biological agent guy from Canada seen in these series, they see things from a different view than most of us. For instance, this man is so involved with what he does, that he sees complete dissastorous outcomes from things we dont. We talked about H1N1 for quite a while. I am convinced that it is nothing to worry about, with only dozens dead from it, and the common flu killing over 500,000 people a year. He went on to explain to me why this could be the great plaque of our generation and is quite concerned. So I had to leave there taking a fresh new (outside) look at my views on what I believe are coming events. Of course I came to the same conclusion that I have had, but I didnt want to look at things as he did. I guess we have to stay focussed, but keep things in perspective too.

One thing that really stood out was the amount of time it took the guy to take action. He had no plan and was half blind to what was occurring. When he finally decided to leave, it was just about too late.

We need to have a plan of what to do in various situations. Where will we go? What will we take? How quickly can we get there? What is a secondary and also a third and fourth backup plan if the first isn't an option? Are we going to be heading out in the same direction that hundreds of thousands of others are also taking?

Also, where is that line of when to evacuate? When that line is crossed (which we must all make ourselves) then it's time to go. If that line is unknown, then by nature we'd hesitate and find ourselves in the very same situation that the guy in the movie found himself in. Define that line (or point where evacuation is necessary) and follow it. Plan ahead when you are thinking clearly.

There are a lot of things in this series that most people dont think about, and consequently dont prepare for.

I thought this was an amazing movie. I watched it on tv. I actually liked the fact that they didn't play things like is done so many times, trying to not "scare anyone". I have to agree with azprepper about the fact that the guy took too long to get the family out. I also liked how they talked about sanitation. This is something many people completely over look. I had heard this was put on youtube, thanks for posting it here, azprepper.

I thoroughly enjoyed it! Of course, that may sound WEIRD to the REST of the world that I enjoy shows with a series of disasters and survival at the center of the plot. However, since we prepare on a DAILY basis, this helped me to stop and take stock of how I would handle a similar situation. I was intrigued at the thought processes that were written for the characters. I also liked that they tried to show the future after such a calamity. Sometimes, we only think about surviving the disaster and not life AFTER the disaster. Interesting food for thought!!!

This was a job well done by History Channel. Im sure the second one will be just as good. A very interesting viewpoint to consider for our preparations. Lots of ideas to build a complete preparedness plan.
