There are many applications for tracking humans and noticing disturbances as it relates to security and defense. Having the ability to notice human trafic in an area that you thought was remote and secure gives you security. Knowledge is power. Awareness is key to intelligence. To know how many people were there, what they were doing, and so forth, can save you much grief later on by being surprized of others presents in your area. Many things to think about, and many different practical applications for this skill set.
