A great set of videos from wildernessoutfitters showing examples of gear to carry in the wilderness for survival. These items are personalized to his needs and your needs may vary, but it is a great example of what you might need.

isnt this the dual survivor guy? with cody londin?
Not sure. He's just closed his store and won't be filming anymore for a while. He is filming a new survivor show with Discovery channel. Should be a really cool show!

yeah, i was at the audition with him in ny...we filmed together with cody londin....he is ok...but i saw him and the rest work impromtlue on scene...they all sucked...outside of a controlled environment, most of these guys cant crap...they were all making fun of me and betting me on scene that is couldnt build a bow drill and start a fire on scene, in the apalatian mountains, with just a knife...i did of course and they all had to eat crow...i wasnt impressed with any of them with regard to skills or attitude...they certainly did not get the tv spot for having outstanding skills...

now back on subject..i know this will be a controversial statement, but feel free to share your points of view...
i watched the videos, and saw a few common items that is quite popular with most people, and ones that drive me nuts...here goes...i cant stand it when guys pack a sling shot, or bands, etc...this drives me crazy on a few levels...i dont see any practicle application for carrying these things in the wilds...
1. i have never met anyone who carries them in their kit that could actually kill an animal with it and feed himself..
the fact is, people throw them in and think they could find some inner proficiency with it when they really need it....bs...if you suck with it now, under stress n duress, n desperation, your proficiency with it will severely decrees...
2. the space and weight of this gear is More than if you packed a .22 pistol! im quite certain i could obtain food with a .22, especially if i packed shell shot...
so why of earth would you choose to pack a sling shot, or bands, ammo etc, if you could pack a gun that is less weight and space?
i may be missing a point, so please let me know your oppinions...i just think the beretta .22 would be much more valuable in my kit...
this also applies to the jigs, spear points, and all this kind of "hunting/food procurement" stuff.
and dont even get me started on carrying a bow and arrow, or crossbow, or any of that nonsense...

That's why we have you here... to share your true life experiences and input on what you have found works and doesn't work. We really appreciate your input and look forward to more of your suggestions.

fiveseven makes a point here that is often missed. the .22 pistol is one of the most under-rated or over-looked of survival items. the beretta is a great choice in .22. i personally have the ruger because i grew up with one and am familiar with it. if you are in minimalist mode, then you make your own hunting gear......but if you are in survival mode make sure you have a .22!!! many folks don't realize the effectiveness of a well-placed .22 shot. a .22 can be effective for small game, predators and even deer! with a pistol you would have to be fairly close or have a good shot, but at least you have a chance!

don't get me wrong........i am impressed with the people who i know who are proficient.......and i mean proficient with primitive weapons and or non-firearm type weapons. i envy their skills. however, most individuals can become quite effective with a nice rimfire pistol. you still have a limited range with the .22, but not as limited at other weapons!

i chose the tiny beretta for its size to pack in my sere kit....i do like the ruger, and i own a walther...
i have used and still practice with most primative weapons...the throwing stick, and bola mostly, because i can come by them very easily in just about any desperate situation...
but that is only after all else has failed...we have been talking about gear that we will have prepared and wont leave home without....so this brings up a my point about tier level gear..
simply put, i divide gear in three levels or tears..
tier one: gear that is on your person at all times...
tier two: gear that is in a bag...that can go with you everywhere..EDC (every day carry) bag...goes with you in the house, to the vehicle, to the office, everywhere...
tier three: gear that is permanently positioned in a safe and often frequented (by you) location..i.e. home, office, and wherever you spend a lot of time...
each tier is redundant...meaning everything in tier one is also in tier two and three....everything in tier two is in tier three...

GEAR RULES

All gear should be duplicated in each tier.
All gear should be practical and have multiple uses.
You should be able to do without any piece of your gear. (either adjust tactics, or be able to easily and reliably manufacture a substitute.
DO NOT BE DEPENDANT ON GEAR!
Depend on your knowledge and skills.
